Hoopla

Are you on the go a lot? Wish you could watch some great movies and TV on your mobile device while traveling? Are music or audiobooks more your travel style? The Belleville Public Library has you covered with hoopla digital!

This new media streaming service offers thousands of music recordings, audio books, graphic novels, TV shows and movies from major Hollywood studios, record companies & publishers.  Everything is available instantly for your smartphone, tablet or computer.  All you need is a valid library card to borrow up to 5 great titles per month.

Remember, there are no waitlists, holds or late fees!

Update: Starting February 1, 2024, Belleville Public Library will be reducing the number of Hoopla Digital items you can borrow from eight to five per month. We have seen an increase in the popularity of Hoopla these past few months and this change will allow our library to ensure that more patrons can use the service each month, and to continue to provide free, equal, and equitable access to this database for all of our patrons.

Visit hoopladigital.com to begin enjoying thousands of titles.

You can access hoopla through your computer or download the free hoopla digital mobile app on your Android or iOS device.

Download or stream to your device

If you are using a mobile device for hoopla you have the choice to either download content to your device or stream directly from the internet.  Once you have downloaded a title to your device, if you need to remove it to free up space, simply return the title and it will be deleted. For more information, please see our guide to the hoopla app.

Daily Borrow Limit error message

In addition to the monthly download limit of 5 titles, there are daily budget limits set by our library that may prevent you from borrowing a title. You may get an error message that says something like "The collective daily borrow limit set by your library has been reached and will reset at midnight. Please browse and add titles to favourites so you can easily access them after midnight". What does that mean? The library pays for Hoopla monthly and Hoopla takes that monthly payment and divides it up by each day in that month. When patrons check out items, each check-out costs something. Different eBooks, audiobooks, movies, binge passes and other content all have different prices. So when a patron checks out an item from Hoopla, the price gets deducted from that daily amount. Eventually, all of the money for the day is gone and no one can check anything else out that day. The limit resets at midnight, so you can try again the next morning.
