Teen Volunteer Program
At Belleville Public Library, we’re happy to help secondary school students earn their community involvement hours. We do our best to accommodate as many teens as possible and to provide a meaningful volunteer experience that builds professional and community skills.
Volunteer Tasks
As a student volunteer, your main role will be helping to keep the library neat and organized through shelf reading — making sure books are in the correct alphabetical and numerical order.
You may also be asked to prepare craft materials for children’s programs and occasionally assist staff during a Saturday program.
Training Sessions
Before you begin volunteering, you must attend both a group and an individual training session. These sessions are a chance for you to:
- Learn more about volunteer tasks
- Meet library staff
- Determine if volunteering at the library is the right fit for you
Both training sessions, as well as any time spent volunteering, count toward your community service hours.
Scheduling
Once you’ve completed training, we’ll schedule your volunteer shifts at times that work for you and our library staff.
- Volunteer shifts are during the library’s open hours, Monday to Saturday (no Sunday volunteer shifts).
- Each shift is typically 2 hours long.
- Teens may volunteer for up to 3 shifts per week.
- If it has been 12 months or more since your last volunteer shift, you’ll need to complete both the group and individual training sessions again before resuming your volunteer work.
Teen Volunteer Artists
Calling all artists! Submit your original hand-drawn or digital colouring sheet designs to earn volunteer hours.
Group and individual training is not required to submit designs.
