Celebrate International Women’s Day with Belleville Public Library! Join us for a screening of the documentary, Harvesting Dreams, followed by a conversation with local filmmaker Brittany Ollerenshaw and Melanie Harrington of Dahlia May Flower Farm.

Harvesting Dreams is an inspiring story about Melanie Harrington and her journey farming sustainably grown flowers at Dahlia May Flower Farm. The film won the Audience Choice Local Documentary Award at the 2021 Downtown Belleville DocFest. 

No registration required. All are welcome to this free special event!

Using Local Clay to Make Art Tiles

Saturday, April 18, 2:30 – 4:00 p.m.

Join us for an exploration of 12,000-year-old glacial clay uncovered in an East Hill backyard. Hear Perry Poupore and Lise Lindenberg’s journey from digging and experimenting to developing custom clay bodies and glazes, and learn how ancient Majolica techniques transform this historic local clay into beautifully hand-painted art tiles.
 
This free talk is drop-in. No registration required.

Computer Basics: 4 Week Course

Wednesdays from 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. on April 1, 8, 15 and 22.
 
Over four weeks, learn how to navigate Windows 11, explore the internet, and build everyday computer confidence. No experience required.  Bring your own laptops of use one provided by the library.
 
Students should plan on attending all 4 sessions, as material and skills build each week.

Drop-In Tech Help

Bring your smart phone, tablet, iPad, or laptop and your questions!  Held monthly on Mondays from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. in the second-floor Board Room. No registration required.

Book a one hour appointment with one of our knowledgeable staff members and learn a new skill. We can help you learn how to use Facebook, navigate email, use a tablet or eReader, upload photos to a computer, and how to research family history, and more.

Adult Chess Club

Weekly Mondays, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Belleville Public Library’s Adult Chess Club currently meets weekly on Monday evenings in the second-floor Board Room. Bring your own chess board or borrow one from the library and meet with fellow chess players for a friendly game. All skill levels are invited to this informal, self-led program. Ages 18 and up.

French Conversation Circle

Weekly Tuesdays, 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.

Join our French Conversation Circle and practice your French speaking skills. The Circle meets in the second-floor cookbook nook on Tuesday evenings at 6:00 p.m.

Please note, this is not a French language learning class. It is for practicing your French speaking skills.

Creative Fibres

Weekly Wednesdays, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Creative Fibres is a social circle for all fibre arts: knitting, crochet, spinning, weaving, cross stich, embroidery, felt work, and more! Creative Fibres meets every Wednesday at 5:30pm in the second-floor cookbook Reading Nook.

BPL Writers' Collective

Biweekly Thursdays, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

The Collective meets every other Thursday in the second-floor Board Room. Join other writers to chat about your work, get ideas, and gain insight on how to improve your writing. Writers’ groups are a great place to encourage yourself and others to meet your writing goals, whether you’re writing fiction or nonfiction.

Queer Space

Monthly Thursdays, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Queer Space is an inclusive social gathering for members of the LGBTQ2SIA+ community taking place monthly in the second-floor Board Room. If you are looking to meet new people, make friends, ask questions, or simply spend an evening amongst other queer people, we’d love for you to join us. Don’t be shy, stop in even just to say hi! Ages 16+.
